What areas do you service?

This is a great question! LS Power is based in the Applecross and Ardross are but services a larger area than this. We have an electrician to service Mount Pleasant, Brentwood and Myaree to Attadale, Bicton and Fremantle. We also have an electrician who will extend south to encompass Willagee, Winthrop, Kardinya and North Lake/South Lake; and as East to pick up the suburbs which include Willetton, Bull Creek, Wilson, Riverton and Parkwood.

This just names a few of the general suburbs we cover. We will travel to a 25km radius of our base in Applecross which has us covering as far south as Rockingham, as far north as Joondalup and as far east as Kalamunda.

Are you a licensed electrical contractor or licensed electrician?

Yes. All electrical contractors that perform work within Australia must be licensed with the relevant state and hold an EC (Electrical Contractors) license. Our electrical contractor license number is EC12165.

In addition to this license, each electrician must hold a current EW (Electrical Workers) license. You can search for current credentials of each tradesperson at the same website.

What is an Electrical Safety Certificate?

An Electrical Safety Certificate is a document that must be provided for all installation works completed. This document is one that provides the customer (you) with the confidence that all works completed are done so according to Australian Standards. The electrician that completes the work must provide his/her details (including EW number) on this form.

The customer should receive a copy of this form within 28 days of works being completed.

How many smoke alarms do I need?

This is dependent on your building structure. Each installation must have at least one hardwired (connected to mains supply) smoke alarm. In addition to this, if you have bedrooms located in different parts of the home then you may need two.

New laws now require these smoke alarms to be interconnected. This means that if one alarm is triggered, the other alarm will also sound ensuring that all occupants of the home are alerted to the emergency.

There are other scenarios that can affect how many alarms you must have. For example, if you have a multi-level home then you will require at least one on each level.

How many RCDs do I need?

Legislation now determines how many RCDs (safety switches) you require in your home. This depends on when your home was built and what you are doing with your home.

If you are selling your home, you need to have at least two RCDs installed that protect all outlets (including the lighting circuits). If you are letting your home as a rental the same rules apply.

NBN installation

This is very confusing because no longer do Telstra control the network of cables that make up the National Broadband Network (NBN). This is now owned by NBN Co. and you are able to select from a range of providers for your telephone and internet connection.

The NBN will be installing fibre optic cables from the street as it passes your home to an outside location which is where NBN Co stops. You must then select your provider (Telstra, Westnet or the like) to complete the installation to the inside of your home.

The completion of this installation will be to run a fibre optic cable from the outside location to a new location in your home. This is where they will install the enclosure (around 400mm x 300mm) as well as the battery backup (UPS) unit if you require.

This inside installation will be bulky and generally you will want to hide this away from public view. Given this, your existing telephone cables may not be run to this new location and you will also require a power point to run the equipment that is installed.

This is where LS Power comes in, we can re-route your existing phone cabling to the new location as well as providing power for the new equipment.
